MiLC is situated in Stornoway, the main town in the Outer Hebrides (a group of islands of the North-West coast of Scotland). Stornoway is on the Isle of Lewis and has a population of around 5,000. Take a look at the Hebrides at www.visithebrides.com.
The centre is based on the University of the Highlands and Islands/Lewis Castle College campus (www.lews.uhi.ac.uk). This is a very lively modern campus with excellent facilities that MiLC students can access. Our special relationship with the UHI/Lewis Castle College is such that if you wish to further your studies to degree level, then you can do so at the local University on the island after completing your course.

MiLC is not only unique in its location but also its concept. We believe that only so much learning can be done in the classroom and the practical usage of the language outside the class is paramount to the successful mastering of the langauge.
This is why the location in Stornoway is so important for your success at MiLC. You are offered the chance of becoming a working part of the community. With only 5,000 of a population, the town is big enough to make many friends (local and foreign) and take part in many different activities but also small enough to become known to the locals and become a part of the community - an honorary Hebridean!

Many language centres are situated in the city with high accommodation costs and foreign students feeling lost and anonymous. MiLC offers low accommodation costs but more importantly a family environment in a town that will look after you.
Our caring teachers and staff will ensure that you integrate, make new friends and are comfortable as soon as possible - this, along with the excellent facilities the centre has to offer, will make the learning process fun as well as educational. During the day, you will be learning the new language and in the evening could be practising the language at your chosen sports club or local friend's house with their family.
MiLC will actively encourage your participation in the community. In the Student Info section, you can see what activities there are on the Isle of Lewis.
Community participation is important to learning the language and to developing your character so that you can be confident when speaking the language to people, you will be able to introduce and assert yourself well in an English speaking world!
