MiLC is situated in Stornoway, the main town in the Outer Hebrides (a group of islands of the North-West coast of Scotland). Stornoway is on the Isle of Lewis and has a population of around 5,000. Take a look at the Hebrides at www.visithebrides.com.
The centre is based on the University of the Highlands and Islands/Lewis Castle College campus (www.lews.uhi.ac.uk). This is a very lively modern campus with excellent facilities that MiLC students can access. Our special relationship with the UHI/Lewis Castle College is such that students who wish to further their studies to degree level on the island after completing the course can do so at the local University.

MiLC is not only unique in its location but also its concept. We believe that only so much learning can be done in the classroom and the practical usage of the language outside the class is paramount to the successful mastering of the langauge.
This is why the location in Stornoway is so important for the success of the student at MiLC. The student is offered the chance of becoming a working part of the community. With only 5,000 of a population, the town is big enough to make many friends (local and foreign) and take part in many different activities but also small enough to become known to the locals and become a part of the community - an honorary Hebridean!

Many language centres are situated in the city with high accommodation costs and foreign students feeling lost and anonymous. MiLC offers low accommodation costs but more importantly a family environment in a town that will look after you.
Our caring teachers and staff will ensure the student integrates, makes new friends and is comfortable as soon as possible - this will make the learning process so much fun as well as the excellent facilities the centre has to offer. During the day, the student will be learning the new language and in the evening could be practising the language at their chosen sports club or local friend's house with their family.
MiLC will actively encourage student participation in the community and in the Student Info section, you can see what activities there are on the Isle of Lewis.
Community participation is important to learning the language and developing the character of the student so that they are confident when speaking the language to people, they can introduce themselves and assert themselves well in an English speaking world!
