Hans Moser's Testimonial (Deutsch)

Generally you don’t go anywhere without having in one way or another some interest or link to the landscape or the country. This was also the case with the Hebrides. Felix Mendelsson's Overture of the Hebrides and his Scottish Symphony had prepared me years ago for this landscape and fulfilled my wish to see it with my own eyes. Therefore I risked it in October 2009. I went to the Hebrides, the Outer Hebrides to be precise. At least to it, right! The whole thing was in addition with language training in Murray International Language Centre. This was an ideal combination.
After the landing in Stornoway I was imnmediately greeted by a nice native Hebridean, Gordon Murray, Murray International Language Centres Director at the airport. Then, a short tour of the town and I was shown my room. The school in the Lewis Castle College, lies in the Castle Grounds , with internet, library, cafeteria all which can be reached in 10 minutes. And finally the landscape: Gentle rippled, giving you the impression that it has been here since the begining of time, which is really true: The Hebridean Gneiss is the oldest known type of stone. With a rented bike you can see places very conveniently, that this land gently ripples but some times you need a lot of muscle work. The weather during my two weeks were relatively stable and extremely sunny. A marvellous, nearly Scandinavian-looking late autumn, which were inviting for walks and bike excursions.
In the school program, there were two excursions - important prehistoric sights included. The lessons in MILC have been, for me, very valuable and profitable. Not only could I tell my goals before the start it was also possilbe to build a tailored school program. The lingualism and competence was in MilC very high.
The Hebrideans are very helpful and sociable people. As a Swiss national I naturally needed some hills to climb. And here I could join the local hill walking club and make sporting discoveries. All in all, a successful stay, a real break and a excellent education in English language.
Thank you Gordon Murray, Thank you the Hebrides
Hans
